Labor Day is BUSY!

There is a lot going on in Breckenridge this weekend. Yesterday was the annual Great Rubber Duck Race, always a favorite end-of-summer event in town. Today is a beautiful day and there are people walking around everywhere enjoying the day. If you want to find activities for the family, go to gobreck.com or visit the Visitor Information Center in the Riverwalk Center. Now is the best time to enjoy what Colorado summer has to offer, mostly because it’s almost time for snow!

Breck highway widening project

Well, it’s ahead of schedule, and we’re hearing that there will be 4 lanes available this holiday weekend, although lane closures could continue before the widenings project’s anticipated completion this month. What does that mean?

I-70 reversible “zipper” lane?

About $170,000 has been spent looking into the feasibility off installing movable barriers to the stretch of I-70 between a point just east of Georgetown and the base of Floyd Hill – about 15 miles. Or, possibly a stretch of 5 or 10 miles, which could be more workable and affordable. This will cut peak Sunday evening winter commutes eastbound with three lanes, and increase travel time in the remaining one travel lane westbound. What will they do?

I can’t believe it’s nearly Labor Day! The Great Rubber Duck Race ends summer in Breckenrige and the fun takes place Saturday, September 4th. The Kids Duck Dash Race begins at 1pm, the Business Battle Race is at 2pm, and The Great, Great Rubber Duck Race commences at 3pm, Breck time. There will be music and food to entertain all while watching the ducks float down the Blue to the Riverwalk Center.

A-Basin Pass Prices

A-Basin has announced their pass prices for the upcoming ski season. The bonus pass to A-Basin and 5 days at Breckenridge or Keystone, one of which can be used at Vail or Beaver Creek, will cost $359. An adult pass to A-Basin is $299, youth (15-19) is $199 and child at $119. These will be the prices all year and there are no blackout dates.

And The Verdict Is In

Wang Kho of Breckenridge was found not guilty on all charges yesterday in a Breckenridge court room. It took the jury only two hours to deliberate over the sexual assault charges stemming from a December 2009 arrest. Kho is (was) a massage therapist in Breckenridge and was arrested and charged with sexual assault on an 18 year old woman visiting from the east coast. There were seven long days of testimony in the case with many witnesses taking the stand to talk about the character of the defendant. This was a pretty “high profile” case in our little town, but it is relieving to know that the crimal, most likely, was not committed. Now we can get back to our normal lives and prepare for mud season.

Kho Verdict to Come Today

The case against Breckenridge massage therapist Wang Kho will come to an end today. This morning will contain the closing statements immediately followed by jury deliberation. This case has been going on for over a week and there have been many asked to take the stand. Most notably, Eric Mamula was asked to testify as Mamula is the landlord of the office in which Kho works. Mamula looked to be supportive of Kho, as he personally has gotten massages from him and has referred his friends and family as well. For the first time Kho stated, through an interpreter, that it was the girl who initiated the sexual contact. We will, hopefully, have a verdict by the end of the day.

Massage Therapist Sex Trial Ends Today

The trial against Wang Kno will end today after more than a week of testimony. Kho is charged with sexual assault along with other misdemeanor charges related to a December 4th incident with an 18 year old woman. The woman says that she was sexually assaulted during a massage that her mother bought for her 18 birthday. There are many inconsistencies and odd behavior by the victim, but she still (in my opinion) doesn’t have much of a reason to be lying. I haven’t been in the courtroom and do not know all the facts, but it seems that both sides are quite addamant that they are telling the truth. Kho’s massage therapy license has been suspended by the state and he and his wife own the establishment where the alleged assault took place. Mr. Kho has already turned down a plea agreement and decided to take the charges to trial. We are still now sure when the verdict will come, but it will interesting to see what transpires.
