Beetle Kill Trees Can Be Dangerous

August 23rd, 2010

A Frisco man was flown to the hospital over the weekend after a beetle kill tree fell on him while on an overnight camping trip outside of Frisco. There were three men together when they decided to stop for the night and setup camp. They all brought hammocks and two of the men tied part of theirs to the same tree. The shared tree was not sturdy and fell on one of the men while he was in his hammock. Colorado hikers must beware because of the huge population of dead trees due to pine beetle kill. It is said that over 90,000 trees fall over every day in Colorado and that number continues to grow.

The HUGE summer-long renovation that is going on at the Village at Breckenridge unveiled their pictures of what the new clock tower will look like. They expect that the clock will be a fixture in Breck and will be visible from “many parts of town”. The project is costing around $18 million, paid by the homeowners in the buildings. Vail Resorts Passes Slightly More Expensive Than Last Year

August 17th, 2010

Those who ski at Vail Resorts will be happy to know that passes will be slightly more expensive. You might be asking yourself, “why should I be happy?” That is because the rest of the ski areas in Colorado are having significant price hikes for the 2010-11 season. A season pass is up to $1,298 at Telluride and over $1,000 at Aspen-Snowmass. Jackson Hole (WY) actually dropped their prices from $1,675 to $1,255. Vail Resorts is offering the Epic Pass for $599, a $20 jump. The Summit Pass went from $399 to $409. Yes, prices are still higher than they were 15 yrs ago when I paid $99 for my pass, but with where the standards are set now we are getting a serious deal. See you in November!

Volleyball Tourney Picked Good Weekend

The nation wide volleyball tournament sure picked the right weekend to make it’s stop in Breckenridge. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were all rain-free, beautiful days! I drove around Breck to see all of the sites and they were filled with over 400 two person teams from all over the country. I kept telling them, “just wait, the rain will be here soon enough.” I was wrong. The whole time the weather was gorgeous, and so were a lot of the women. Town was busy and people were out having fun. Let’s hope they decide to come back next year!
